Two organizations and two venues share a date: the third Saturday of the month. The Rotary Club's free summer concert series has five shows, and Lake Norman Brewery's car show takes place monthly on the third Saturday, with no registration required.
The result isn't a coincidence worth a shrug. It's the closest thing Denver has to a standing town night, and most people who live here only know about one half of it.
A park that hosts the summer concerts
Rescue Squad Park, at 7819 Galway Lane, has ball fields, a large playground, a disc golf course, fitness stations, walking trails, a dog park, and a picnic pavilion. The Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club was chartered in 1995 as a spin-off from the Rotary of Lincolnton.
That pavilion hosts five free Music in the Park shows each summer, always on a Saturday, always at 6:30 p.m., always free to attend. There's no ticket booth to staff, no gate to run, just a pavilion, a beer and wine garden, a 50/50 raffle, and whatever food trucks show up that week.
If you've walked the disc golf course on a Tuesday evening or let the dog loose in the off-leash area on a Sunday morning, you've already used the park for what it does every other day of the month. The third Saturday is just the night it does double duty as a concert venue.
The brewery's other calendar
Lake Norman Brewery, at 1753 Triangle Circle, didn't need a reason to become a car-show fixture. It became one anyway. The Cosmos Car Show runs there the third Saturday of every month, with awards for best classic build and best modern build, a grill running the whole time, and a band that takes over once the show wraps around 3 p.m., though the ticketed evening set doesn't start until 7.
