Trump National golf, 18 miles of Lake Norman shoreline and a required club membership: what to know about The Point in Mooresville.

One of Lake Norman's signature golf and waterfront communities, explained by a local advisor

The Point is one of the most distinctive communities on Lake Norman, and one of the most misunderstood. Buyers love the lifestyle, but the costs work differently here than almost anywhere else on the lake. I have helped clients buy and sell across Lake Norman since 2006, and this guide covers what I tell every buyer considering The Point.

Why People Choose The Point

The Point sits on the Brawley School Road peninsula in Mooresville, with about 862 homesites along roughly 18 miles of Lake Norman shoreline. It is built around Trump National Golf Club Charlotte, with a Greg Norman-designed championship course, a full-service club and resort-style amenities. Most lots are at least three quarters of an acre, and six walking trails and a large Village Green give the community a relaxed, resort feel. The Point is not gated.

Homes and Prices

Homes are custom-built, mostly from the late 1990s through the 2010s, in stone, brick, stucco and shingle styles. They range from about 3,000 square feet to waterfront estates of 10,000 square feet or more, many with private docks.

As of late September 2026, about 33 homes were for sale in The Point, with a median list price near $2.3 million and an average of about $600 per square foot.

What drives price here:

  • Water: deep-water, main-channel waterfront with a private dock sits at the top of the market, followed by cove waterfront, golf-course and interior homes.
  • Lot size and privacy: The Point's larger lots are a big part of its appeal.
  • Updates: renovated kitchens, primary suites and outdoor living areas sell faster.

Trump National Golf Club Charlotte

The club has a 7,495-yard championship course designed by Greg Norman, a practice facility and short-game course, tennis and pickleball, an aquatics center, fitness facilities, dining at the Lake Norman Tavern, and a spa.

The most important thing to know: every owner in The Point is required to hold at least a Social membership in the club. This obligation is tied to each lot. Higher tiers (Sports and Full Golf) are optional and cost more.

The Real Cost of Owning in The Point

The HOA fee is not the whole picture. On top of owners association dues, every owner pays for the required club membership, and golf members pay more. Club fees are billed separately, are not part of your mortgage escrow, and are not filed with the county, so they are easy to miss in online listings.

Before any client writes an offer in The Point, I get the current written fee schedule directly from the club, confirm the seller's dues are paid up (unpaid club dues can become a lien), and review the recorded membership requirements. That way there are no surprises after closing.

Schools

The Point is served by Iredell-Statesville Schools: Woodland Heights Elementary, Brawley Middle and Lake Norman High.

Location and Commute

  • Langtree at the Lake shops and restaurants: about 10 minutes
  • Downtown Mooresville: about 15 to 20 minutes
  • Interstate 77: about 15 to 25 minutes
  • Uptown Charlotte: about 40 minutes or more
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport: about 45 minutes or more

Because The Point is at the end of a peninsula, it is quiet and has almost no through traffic. The trade-off is a longer drive to I-77, so I always have commuters test the drive at rush hour.

Selling in The Point

Buyers in The Point compare total cost of ownership, not just price, so the best-marketed homes explain the club membership clearly and highlight what makes the lot special: water depth, views, dock and privacy. With Premier Sotheby's International Realty, I pair that local clarity with global marketing, professional staging and photography, video and international exposure.
